Who Will Write the Story of Your Life?

What will your children and your grandchildren remember about you? How will you share with them the wisdom you’ve learned?
Often people can’t answer many of the questions their families ask them about their ancestors because they have left no written or oral histories. As John Phillips of Birmingham, Alabama, explains, “I asked my dad to record the story of his life and that of his family for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Unfortunately, he died the night I asked him to do that. That’s when I realized the importance of family histories to help us understand what our families have stood for, and for what principles, values and ideals they have died for in years past.”
Having a family history aids us in learning:
* who we are;
* where we’ve come from, and where various members of our family have lived;
* who our ancestors are, and how they’ve made their livings;
* what our families have believed in the past;
* what they’ve worked for;
* what they’ve died for to give us what we have today;
* what our dads will have done in various business situations and moral dilemmas that we face; and
* what our moms will have wanted us to teach our children.
A vast amount of wisdom, knowledge and insights are learned throughout a person’s lifetime, and what a waste not to be able to share this information with your family. One way to preserve what you’ve learned and experienced and pass that down to the next generation and future generations is to write the story of your life and that of your family or have someone write it for you. Today’s the day to start writing the story of your life. If you don’t have the time to write or don’t feel you have the writing skills required, hire a professional writer who will interview you and write the story of your life for you.
