Peterson, creator of Woods Wise Products in Franklin, Tennessee, introduced
a new limited-edition, custom-designed call at the Woods Wise turkey hunt
at White Oak Plantation in Tuskegee, Alabama, this spring.
QUESTION: Jerry, tell me about the lid of this
limited-edition call.
ANSWER: This call has original artwork in pen and ink that is burned
into the wood. Each piece is individually numbered, and on the back I've
signed it in an engraving and also on the bottom. This call is a collector's
item because this artwork hasn't been sold anywhere else. Customers can
reserve the numbered edition if they want the same number on their calls.
QUESTION:
Will the value of these limited-editon calls increase over the years?
ANSWER: These calls are a unique piece of art and will skyrocket
in collectibility over the years, just like those old duck decoys that
used to sit in the basement, and today they sell for thousands and thousands
of dollars. Likewise, turkey calls or game calls in general are becoming
highly collectible and like an investment in art.
QUESTION:
What have you seen some old calls sell for?
ANSWER: Gibson calls go for several thousand dollars. I believe
the NWTF reported one going $25,000 at a NWTF auction. The price on collectible
calls -- some that are a few years old -- are breaking into the thousand-dollar
range. Anytime you're buying a collectible from me or anyone else and
can dedicate or have the artist dedicate that call to commemorate a graduation
or birthday, that adds tremendously to the collectibility and heirloom
quality.
QUESTION:
Do you know what the next limited-edition turkey call will be?
ANSWER: We're looking at two designs. We're not sure if it's going
to be a slate call or another version of a box call.
QUESTION: Most people who buy these calls will
put them up and never use them because of their quality and collectibility.
But you've built them to call a turkey effectively.
ANSWER: They are the finest turkey calls we can produce. We take
not only a great deal of pride in the designs, which I create, but I want
to make sure each and every call is as fine a turkey-calling instrument
as we can produce.
