How To Grow Daylilies in Buckets
For those who lack
the space to grow daylilies, we have come up with
a way to grow daylilies successfully in buckets. Below are the instructions.
1- 3-gallon bucket
2- Leaves or cyprus mulch
3- Black Cow
4- ½-handful of lime
5- Alfalfa pellets
6- Composted manure
7- Epsom salts
8- Soil conditioner
Put leaves or cyprus mulch in the bottom third of the bucket. Next, add
about two to four inches of cow manure. Sprinkle lime over the top of
the
cow manure, then add 2 cups of alfalfa pellets and about 2 tablespoons
of Epsom salts. These pellets will
break down when moistened, loosen the soil and enrich the soil. Next,
place
your daylily in the bucket, roots down, making sure all roots get in the
bucket. Then pour in a mixture of composted manure and 1 cup soil conditioner
to fill the bucket. Pull the daylily
up so that the crown of the daylily (the place where the roots start)
is
even to slightly below the top of the soil. Water thoroughly, then attach
tag or name plate with the name of the daylily. Be sure not to plant the
daylilies too deep.
