Special Fall Snapper Season at Alabama’s Gulf Coast – Bigger and Better Than Ever

Day 4: A Haul of Saltwater Fish Came From Alabama’s Gulf Coast on the “Wishbone” Charter Boat with Captain Reuben Ware

Editor’s Note: Every weekend from October 1 until 12:01 am on November 22 this fall, anglers can catch and keep their limits of red snapper on Alabama’s Gulf Coast. But there’s more than just snapper biting. This week we’ll talk to captains in Orange Beach about the trips they’ve taken at the first of snapper season. You can see just what red snapper season will be like for you and your family, if you head to Alabama’s Gulf Coast during October and November. For more information on fishing guides and charter boats, lodging accommodations, restaurants and entertainment on Alabama's Gulf Coast, call Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism at 800-745-SAND (7263), or go to www.orangebeach.com. You also can get a fishing report three times each week by checking-out the "What's Biting?" column at www.orangebeach.com/fishing/biting/.

Captain Reuben Ware of the charter boat “Wishbone,” docked at SanRoc Cay at Orange Beach, Alabama, had a really-nice catch of fish on a 4-hour charter with a family of a mom, a dad and kids. Most of the time, the 4-hour charter is for Spanish mackerel, king mackerel and perhaps redfish. But on this trip, Captain Ware ran 12-miles offshore and fished his way back to port, catching red snapper, vermilion snapper, triggerfish and grouper. “The good news is that this family has bent rods all day long,” Captain Ware explains. “We probably threw back twice as any fish as we caught. Our party had a great day of fishing and a treat they’ll remember.
