Fishing and Fun Heating-Up on Alabama’s Gulf Coast This Spring and Summer

Day 2: Alabama’s Gulf Coast Offers Party-Boat Fishing at Its Best with Captain Randy Boggs

Click for Larger ViewIf you want to go offshore fishing during spring break or any time this spring or summer but don’t have a group of six or more anglers to charter a boat, you still can go fishing by booking a party boat. Often called a head boat, a party boat welcomes individuals and groups to fish Alabama’s Gulf of Mexico waters. These boats furnish all the equipment you’ll need, including the bait, the tackle, your fishing license and the fishing expertise. All you’ll need to bring is your food, drinks, suntan lotion and sunglasses. This month, from March 1 to 15, Captain Randy Boggs, based at SanRoc Cay Marina in Orange Beach, Alabama, is offering a special spring-break package. Click for Larger View“Our normal charge for a 6-hour trip is $85, but from March 1 to 15, we’re lowering the price to $65 per person. If you call 1 or 2 days before your trip to make reservations, we’ll be able to get you on a boat and take you out to catch vermilion snapper, lane snapper, white snapper, triggerfish and a wide variety of other bottom feeders. You’ll also catch big red snapper and grouper, but because the season for these fish is closed, we’ll have to release them.”

Click for Larger ViewBoggs is often asked by his customers how many fish they can expect to catch on a 6-hour trip. “Angling skill, weather and the fish’s mood plays a big role in how-many fish each angler will catch,” Boggs says. “The average angler often will catch from 5 to 20 pounds of hard-fighting, good-eating fish. But anglers who just want to catch and release big fish can catch 50 or more big red snapper and grouper. Our goal is to try to help each angler catch enough fish he or she doesn’t have to release to take home for one to three meals. If you don’t know how or don’t want to clean your catch, our deckhands charge $0.30 per pound live weight to clean those fish any way you want them cleaned.” Captain Boggs enjoys taking families out deep-sea fishing and explains, “My daughter’s 5-years old and has fished with me out in the Gulf of Mexico since she could walk. Click for Larger ViewWe enjoy having big families with mom, dad, grandma, granddad and all the children come spend the day fishing with us. We try to make sure everyone has a good time and catch plenty of fish.”
