John's Journal... Entry 8 - Day 3

Fishing the Chandeleur Islands - Day Three

When you fish from a boat in the Chandeleurs, most guides usually have little aluminium skiffs with little motors. You then fish on your own without a guide.

However when you fish from the Beau Rivage, you will be fishing out of a back-country flats boat with a 50-horsepower Mercury engine and a guide at the wheel. The boats are extremely comfortable and have a large casting deck.

Because the guides stay at the Chandeleurs all day and all night they know where the fish are. The guides provide everything you need -- food, bait, tackle and weighting stringers.

The guides have great personalities and they are fun to spend the day with. They do everything they can to try and help you catch fish. One of the tactics they use if you are fishing from the boat is to float across the grass flats using popping corks with jigs under them. Using this tactic you cover a lot of water and catch a lot of fish.

If you don't want to get your feet wet you can also fly fish and have a great day with plenty of action, screaming drag and a bent rod.
