To catch the really big bass at Lake Eufaula instead of casting and retrieving the big Gorilla spinnerbait, try trolling it.

"The main reason Ledgebuster Lures created the 2 1/2-ounce Gorilla spinnerbait was to provide a spinnerbait that could be trolled out on the deep ledges and dropoffs out on the main river channel," Jackie Thompson, a guide with Lake Eufaula, said.

If you're fishing with jigs in the mouths of creeks at Eufaula, look for schools of crappie on your depthfinder. Your depthfinder will tell you at what depth you'll locate the crappie holding. Troll your jigs about a foot above the depth where you see the crappie holding. If you fail to get a bite, change the color of the jigs you're trolling, and go back through the school. Extremely color sensitive, crappie will prefer one color of jig over another color on certain days. Continue to change jig color until you discover the color of jig the crappie in the school you're fishing for want on the day you're fishing.

You'll get your best buy at the McKenna Ranch during bow or black-powder season when you'll find cheaper prices and hunters haven't harassed the deer and hogs as much. Too, you should see more animals and have a greater opportunity to take them. If you're really into hog hunting, you can hunt them at any time of the year at the McKenna Ranch. Call ahead to make sure that the hogs are in the corn or near the feeders before you get there.

Your family can go on wildlife safaris and nature walks while you hunt. Too, you can come back to the ranch for a bed-and- breakfast experience after hunting season ends. Call or drop them a letter at 741 County Road 313, Pachuta, MS 39347 (601) 727-4926.
