John's Journal... Entry 204, Day 2

WHEN BASS GO TO ROOST WITH GEORGE MAYFIELD

The Best I Have Ever Had

EDITOR'S NOTE: If you want to learn more about any subject, you always talk to the experts. George Mayfield is an expert on bass-fishing lakes like Lake Dancy at The Roost.

Allen Smith of Birmingham, Alabama has fished for bass for as long as he can remember. He just started fishing Lake Dancy this year. "Two weeks ago when I fished here, the fellow I fished with and myself, caught over 100 bass in a day of fishing," Smith reports. "We caught bass weighing from 2- to 4-1/2-pounds each all day. Today was the first day I'd ever fished Strike King's Quad Shad. When I first saw the bait, I really had doubts as to whether it would catch a bass. I had never seen a spinner bait with four blades. I thought the lure would have too-much flash and too-many vibrations in a clear lake for bass to come after it. Honestly, I really thought the Quad Shad would spook more bass than it would catch. But I was wrong. I caught bass in the morning, the afternoon and the pouring-down rain. The Quad Shad was so hot that I caught and released 15 bass on 16 casts. I'd never seen a spinner bait any better than this one. I was fishing the Quad Shad on a 15-pound-test line.

"I've fished a lot of lakes all over the country, and I believe that Lake Dancy will be one of the hottest new lakes in the nation this year, especially, for bass fisherman who want to catch a lot of bass."
