"Cast 'em out, and wind 'em in" is the way most bass anglers view crankbait fishing. Yet this simple technique produces many bass for thousands of sportsman each year.

However, a higher form of crankbait angling can be classified as an art. Once that art is mastered, the artist can put far more bass in his livewell than the "cast 'em out, crank 'em in" boys.

Crankbait fishing can be very sophisticated -- requiring skill and expertise in the bait placement, and variation of retrieve. Masters of the sport of cranking make bass bite even when the fish don't want to by using several different tactics. But you don't have to be a crankbait artist to take bass on a crankbait. You still can throw a crankbait out, wind it in and catch big bass.
