THE ELEMENTS OF AN ARTICLE

Title - The title must snag the reader buy also must fit in the space. Author's title rarely is used but is a major selling point with editors.

Lead - The first sentence must pull the reader into the first paragraph. This is the hooker.

Body - The body of the article gives the information and the research and explains how this article is relative to the reader.

Ending or close - The ending sums up and reiterates the body of the article and often refers to the title or lead.

Sidebar - A brief segment of information that either expands on points already made in an article or offers additional information. Sidebars are placed apart from the body of the article when the publisher lays out the copy.
