EDITOR'S NOTE: John Lanier of Jachin, Alabama, lives close to I-59/I-20 as it runs down the Mississippi border in west/central Alabama and owns nationally-known Bent Creek Lodge with his partner Leo Allen. With more than 30,000 acres making up the lodge's lands, Bent Creek Lodge offers the hunter a wide variety of hunting opportunities.

QUESTION: Why do so many people from the Mossy Oak camouflage plant in West Point, Mississippi, and their guests hunt at Bent Creek?

ANSWER: Of course, I know we have a good place to hunt, and I think the Mossy Oak people and their guests enjoy the people, especially the guides, at Bent Creek.

QUESTION: What makes your guides special?

ANSWER: The lodge's guides are good people. People like them and get along with them, plus, they're really good turkey hunters and woodsmen.

QUESTION: How far is Bent Creek in Jachin, Alabama, from West Point, Mississippi, where Mossy Oak's offices are located?

ANSWER: Bent Creek is only about two hours away from West Point.

ANSWER: Jim Kelly, the former quarterback of the Buffalo Bills, likes to hunt turkeys here. Charlie O'Brien, Chipper Jones and Travis Fryman, all big league baseball players, and most of the outdoor writers in the nation have come here to hunt deer.

QUESTION: Why did you decide to get into the deer and turkey lodge business? You're basically a cattle and timberman and a veterinarian, aren't you?

ANSWER: Well, yes, but I just enjoy the lodge business. A lot of people want to hunt here.

QUESTION: Do you have many first-timers come to Bent Creek Lodge?

click to enlargeANSWER: Yes, we have numbers of first-timers.

QUESTION: If somebody wants to bring his wife or child and needs someone to go in the stand with them, do you have people to do that?

ANSWER: Yes, we have people who'll show them what to shoot and what not to shoot.

QUESTION: Bent Creek also has a rifle range and a 3-D archery course. What other types of facilities does the lodge have for people to enjoy?

ANSWER: We also have a sporting-clays course.
